Abstract


Information on the process menstruation and menstruation problem during menstruation is important, however not all adolescent girls receive it. They therefore need to be prepared enough to recognize and welcome menstruation. Adolescents need knowledge, emotional support and assurance that menstruation is normal and healthy. Mother are the first source of knowledge for the teen to get information on menstruation and menstruation problems. Nevertheless, many mother put this information a secret and do not communicate it because it is considered an uncomfortable topic discussed. Methods: This study was an observational study using cross sectional design with quantitative approach and qualitative approach supported by interviews. Analysis used is descriptive univariate analysis, the chi-square bivariate with 95% confidence intervals. The higher giving information between mother an adolescent girl will result in no premenstrual syndrome complaints as 5.72 times greater than in adolescents with lower information. Mother's education and the media have a meaningful relationship with Premenstrual syndrome. Interview result was show that adolescent more likely looking for information about premenstrual syndrome from friend than mother. Conclusions: Adolescents with high level of giving information about menstruation from mothers tend to have a higher knowledge about menstruation and didn’t have menstruation problems. Adolescents more prepare to solve premenstrual syndrome. Communication mother daughter whose are seldom happened made difficult to bring menstruation topic.
